We work with a lot of tech companies and I am new to the platform in an effort to improve the work we doing in help our clients forecast as part of their fundraising efforts. It is very, very common for tech businesses to sell a 12 month contract for their product (mostly SAAS businesses) whereby they make a sale in month 1 but then realise the revenue over the following 12 months.
Or similarly for a consulting business, they might get paid one month after doing a contract but then realise the revenue over say a 3-6 month period after that.
After my first onboarding session it appears that the forecasting tool is unable to handle this relatively common business practice.
Please speak to your customer success manager- there are several ways this can be achieved.
